Piano tuning fees.
Most tunings in the metropolitan area cost between $195-$275.
As a guide, I charge $110 as a call out fee (may vary according to location). This includes 15 minutes to assess the piano and hopefully start working on it.
After the initial 15 minutes, I charge $85 for the next 45 minutes, and then $65 per half hour thereafter.
Please be aware that even if your piano is untunable I will still charge a call out fee. If you think this is unreasonable, then bring the piano to me and I will gladly inspect it for free.
What to expect
Many older pianos (particularly those purchased inexpensively from online sites or classiJed ads) unfortunately may be untunable. If this is the case, I'll take the time to explain the problems and what may be done to remedy them.
Some well cared for older pianos can be tuned within an hour, many will take a bit longer. Generally speaking, the less a piano costs, the more likely the cost of tuning and servicing will exceed the value of the instrument.
Regular Clients
Some of my clients have their pianos tuned and serviced on a regular basis - generally every six months or so. I know these pianos very well, and will usually do some extra service or maintenance work, as well as the tuning, during each visit.
I generally charge regular clients between $195-$220, depending on piano type and location.
Casual Clients
Some clients will have their pianos tuned less often, but still every 12- 18 months or so. Prices here range from $220-$275, depending on piano type, location and time since the last tuning.
I will endeavour to do minor service work or repairs, inclusive of the fee, if time allows. It is not uncommon for a piano to require 2 or more tunings if it has not been tuned for more than 18 months.
Older-Style Pianos
"I've just bought a piano, and I don't know when it was last tuned".
Unfortunately, I cannot give a solid estimate on this type of job. Ring me so I can hear the piano through the phone, and we'll take it from there. Better still, ring me BEFORE you buy that lovely looking antique that "just needs a bit of a tune", and I can probably save you a great deal of grief.
